The Poem of the Man-God
This five-volume book – The Poem of the Man-God – written by Maria Valtorta has greatly inspired me to create a blog about women and discipleship. This book recreates the life of Jesus, His family and His ministry during the thirty-three years that He lived here on earth. This book brings us back in time to witness with immense vividness the complete life and works of Jesus and Mary along with the twelve Apostles and the women disciples of Jesus, and many more.
The Leading Women Disciples
At the helm of the early women disciples was Mary, the mother of Jesus. Then there was Mary Clopas, the mother of Jesus’ first cousins, James and Judas Thaddeus, who were among his 12 disciples. Mary Salome was the mother of the two other disciples of Jesus: James and John; Martha was the sister of Lazarus whom Jesus raised from the dead; Johanna was the wife of Chuza who was a precursor of a Roman officer; Susanna was the bride at the wedding of Cana whom Jesus healed from a debilitating sickness, and the last to come to the group was Mary Magdalene, sister of Martha and Lazarus, who has been a prostitute and out of whom Jesus removed seven demons before she came to join the women disciples.
These leading women disciples were of great courage and strength possessing great faith and love for our Lord that translated into dedicated and selfless services and that enabled Christ’s ministry to function unencumbered by domestic matters.
It is my prayer that my writing of this blog will revolve around a path that will lead in the fulfillment of the following aspirations:
- To re-empower today’s women believers in the service of God, and of His Church, as Jesus ordained it to be during His three year earthly sojourn;
- To revive in today’s women believers the same courage, strength, faith, love and support that the early women disciples had for Jesus and His Church;
- To encourage today’s women believers to partake in the role of discipleship in this present time and age starting with their families, and friends, who are lukewarm to the cause of God for salvation and Kingdom building.
- To re-educate today’s women believers on the true value and beauty of our faith as culled from Jesus teachings (written in the New Testament Book of the Bible) during His three year ministry.
